After a long, courageous battle with the debilitating Parkinson’s disease, Norman Solomon passed away early on Monday morning in Florida. Mr. Solomon was an outstanding Bahamian and had been for some years a distinguished Member of this Parliament.

Government Pursues Legislation to Allow for Plea Bargaining in Criminal Cases

Parliamentarians began debate Monday on a Bill to allow for plea bargaining in criminal cases; one of several Bills the Government will seek to introduce to improve the administration of justice in The Bahamas. The Government tabled the Bill prior to the House of Assembly’s summer recess to enable House members to review it ahead of Parliament’s fall session which convened last Wednesday.

Guidelines to Manage Suspected Child Abuse Cases Under Review

Bills Pending to Address Pharmaceutical Imports and Access to Medicines

The Government of The Bahamas will introduce two “important” pieces of proposed legislation to Parliament that are designed to prevent the importation of “illegitimate and/or fake” pharmaceutical products into the local market and to make access to affordable medications much easier, Minister of Health Dr. the Hon. Backyard Gardening Eagerly Launched

Scores of backyard gardeners were given their kits on Saturday as Agriculture and Marine Resources Minister Larry Cartwright launched what he hoped is the first step towards greater food security. “This programme is simply the beginning as it seeks to foster greater participation by individuals in the production of food,” said Mr. Cartwright.
