During a stopover in Abaco Thursday Works and Transport Minister Neko C. Grant inspected a road works project presently underway in Marsh Harbour.

On September 12 the Government signed a contract for $162,343 with Larry Williams of Larry’s Construction Company in Dundas Town to resurface 2,000 feet of Bay Street from Arawak Agency to the freight dock.

The contract includes removing existing pavement and quarry, leveling and compacting the base and installing six-inch concrete slabs. The work, which also includes installation of lighting, is expected to take six months to complete.

Following a brief inspection, Minister Grant said, “Just over five or six weeks ago we awarded the contract for the restoration of Bay Street. Bay Street was originally a concrete road with some work done with asphalt. We felt it was taking away from Marsh Harbour and we want to maintain the old charm of the island. Hence, we decided to restore the road with concrete.

“Work is progressing well and we expect on time completion and quality work,” the Minister added.

Minister Grant was accompanied by Anita Bernard, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport; Gordon Major, Acting Director; John Schaeffer, area Engineer and Theophilus Cox, Administrator for North Abaco.
